KEITHHALL PRIMARY SCHOOL

PROGRESS TOWARDS AN ECO SCHOOLS FLAGSHIP AWARD

Home

Progress towards an Eco School Flag has been quite slow due to other initiatives and activities taking place here at Keithhall School. However this is what we have achieved so far:

  • March 2003: Committee Meeting No.4. The Eco Code was created by many pupils in P4-6.
  • April 2003: The P4-7 pupils begun their ‘Plants for Wildlife’ project and planted some herbs and flower seeds to improve the school grounds for wildlife.
  • May 2003: All the P7 pupils accompanied by Mrs Robertson and a parent volunteer travelled to the Young Agenda Conference in Stavanger, Norway. This was an international gathering of children aged 11 to 14 years to share their environmental achievements.
  • June 2003: The Eco Committee held its annual elections. Another audit of the school was undertaken. The Silver Award was gained by the school. A ‘Bring ‘n’ Buy Sale was organised by children to raise money for a fun day.
  • August 2003: The P4-7 class studied Environmental Art!  The pupils looked at the work of British Sculptor Andy Goldsworthy and created their own biodegradable sculptures in the school grounds.
  • September 2003: The first Eco School meeting of the session took place.  The environmental review was discussed an action plans drawn up.
  • November 2003: Keithhall School created an information display for Aberdeenshire Council’s Annual Quality Conference.  This showed how the children planned the school grounds improvements which will take place next year.
  • January 2004: The ‘Action for Birds’ day was an exciting event with all the children, staff and some parents assisting to make birdseed cake, bird boxes and feeders from milk cartons.  The school participated in the RSPB Big School Birdwatch Event.
